This is a case study that I worked on for my Community Health class. It discusses the case of an African American women living in Athens, GA who is pregnant and HIV positive. This study was a collaborative effort between two other students and myself. We provide a brief description of the health issue, the impact that the individual’s culture may have on her particular illness, a description of who is impacted by the conditions presented, summarize available resources for the individual, and suggest sustainable practices for the future. It also includes a Resource Handout at the end of the paper with a list of local institutions and organizations that could be of use to our case.
From this paper, I learned how to assess the resources available to a population and use them to form a intervention plan that suits the needs of that community.
