This week marked the final countdown to the Arts in Health Open House event that I am hosting on Friday, November 10th from 2:30-4:30pm at Winship. In preparation for this event, I have continued to send out invitation e-mails to all of those interested in the event, as well as reminder e-mails informing those already coming to the event that it is coming up!
In an effort to recruit some more college art and music students, I went and tabled for the Arts in Health program at Agnes Scott University this week. This really brought me back to my glory days at UGA when I would table for my own student clubs and organizations on campus, but now I was able to do it for a successful cancer institute. I set up my tri-fold, laid out some flyers and brochures, and put out my bowl of left-over Halloween candy in Agnes Scott’s cafeteria, and I was ready for business. I had several students approach me who were interested in the volunteer opportunity, as well as some art and music teachers take a flyer to bring to their students. Agnes Scott also graciously attached my Arts in Health Open House flyer to their weekly e-newsletter that was sent our to students, faculty, and staff. This was a great opportunity for me to promote my health program as well as educate those who stopped by about the health benefits of art in regards to cancer treatment.
In addition to marketing the Arts in Health program and Open House, I created a supplies list and budget for my supervisor to use when buying art supplies for the program. I was instructed to compare prices and calculate an average cost for the Art Day that was coming up, as well as the Arts in Health supply needs in general.
On Friday, DaVida, my supervisor, held a Guest and Volunteer Services Department staff meeting where we discussed this month’s upcoming events, new volunteers, and holiday activities. I received feedback on the best way to reach out to the potential artist volunteers, as well as instructions on what to do in the days leading up to the Open House and Art Day events. Next week will be a busy one, but I am excited to see how it goes!
